- According to Bill Litant, Irving was a NASA scientist/engineer. He taught Hebrew school when Bill was grwoing up and later taught courses in science and philosophy at Harvard.. He was an accomplished musician (violin and Viola) and played in an orchestra with Leonard bernstein before the latter became famous.4
