  • According to Alex Pelican, Hymie was an inventor who made one of the first car indicators. He fitted it onto his car, and it indicated that the driver was going to turn left or right. At that time, the driver would put his hand out of the window to indicate that he was about to turn right, or, if he intended to turn left, the driver would move his hand in a circle. Hymie produced a device that looked like a white gloved hand and the driver was able to have the hand stick out or circle as was needed. The cars then came out with signals on both sides on the car and Hymie's white gloves went the way of all flesh. Hymie also invented an incendiary bomb douser that was used in the second world war by air raid wardens who carried one for roof or street fires.8
