Herbert's naturalization papers say he was born August 18, 1866.  The 1870 Krakow census says he was born in 1866.  The 1880 Krakow Census says he was born August 11, 1866, but it's unclear whether the date is in the Julian or Gregorian calendar.

According to his naturalization papers, Herbert immigrated to the U.S. from Hamburg on or about 11 Sep 1891 on board the Normannia.

According to a probate notice published in the NY Times on May 30, 1941, Herbert's estate was valued at more than $10,000.  An estate appraisal published in the NY Times on November 26, 1941 showed an estate value of  $109,151

  • Herbert was a doctor who was educated in Vienna and then moved to the United States.  According to Nona Troper Shafran, Herbert received his medical degree in 1891 from the university of Krakow, then in Austria-Hungary.  He was on the staff at the old Mount Sinai Hospital, then called "The Jews' Hospital."

    Acccording to the 1920 Census, Herbert was a chemist working at home.

    His occupation was shown in the 1900, 1910 and 1930 censues, and on his naturalization papers and his death certificate, as a physician, general practice.

    According to the 1910 Census, Henry and Regina had a 25-year old English servant named Jane Rennix.1,2,14,7,15
