Benny was known as "Bennie the Boob." He had mental problems and was institutionalized. He worked in State Hospitals as an orderly and was a patient at Pilgrim State Hospital on Long Island.

David Polland never liked the "Bennie the Boob" moniker because Bennie was very nice to him as a child, and David remebers him as a "great uncle."

According to the 1920 Census, Benny's occupation was listed as laborer. According to the 1930 Census, he was an orderly at a hospital.3,4
